Lessons Learned - Musical Message of Diversity to Students in Ripley

Kristi Scott, Ripley

Kathy Price, noted children's author, brought her musical message of diversity to students in Ripley. St. Michaels, Ripley and Russellville Elementary pre-school and elementary students learned the importance of having good character, being honest and sticking together. Ms. Price is a published poet, musician and an early music specialist in Manhattan and Brooklyn nursery schools. She is also a storyteller who presents Afro-Caribbean folklore, song and games in a performance called "Jambo World of Music for Children" in libraries all around New York City where she lives. The Bourbon Street Musicians is her first book for children and she delighted the children in our area with the story. The book was illustrated by Andrew Glass. Her performance and message was paid for by the Ripley Friends of the Library and Learn and Serve America. Learn and Serve America strives to teach students in grades P-12 the importance of service learning, character education and career development. Three of Ms. Price's books were purchased by Learn and Serve America and will be placed at the Union Township Library, The Ripley Elementary Library and St. Michael's Library.
