Georgetown
Jr. - Sr. High School will conduct its Science Day on Wednesday,
February 27, 2008 in the high school gymnasium. The gym will
be open Tuesday after school, from 3:00 until 6:30, for the
students to set-up their projects. The public is invited to
visit on Tuesday at that time. Approximately 175 students, 6th
through 12th grades will present their science projects for
judging on Wednesday morning. This year, for the first time,
the top 6th graders will compete at the high school.
The public
is also invited to review the projects following the completion
of the judging, from 1:30 until 2:30, on Wednesday. At approximately
2:30, the “Best of Category” and “Best of
Show” will be announced and they will receive their
trophies. Parents who are assisting with taking projects home
are welcome to stay.
Student
projects receiving a “Superior” rating are invited
to participate at the District Science Day to be held at Wilmington
College, Wilmington, Ohio, with the possibility of State competition
at the Ohio State University. Our judges are volunteers from
the local community. Mrs. Sue Bergren, Science Day Coordinator,
Mrs. Sherrill Cowdrey, Mrs. Frankie Scott and other members
of the Academic Committee have met with the science department
faculty to continue improving our Science Day. The Learn and
Serve class volunteers will assist with the conduct of Science
Day. Additionally, teachers from the English, math and art
departments have been available to assist the students with
their projects.
